On September 11th 2015, Simon was diagnosed with a grade 4 brain tumour- and the outlook wasn’t good. Given just weeks to live, it appeared that there was nothing that could be done. Fast forward over a year later and Simon is still with us – and then came some good and bad news.
The good news – a top Harley Street surgeon offered to remove the tumour. The bad news – the operation, aftercare and ongoing treatment to remove the cancer completely does not come cheap. Simon’s sister, Abi, has set up a Go Fund Me page, and his this to say about her brother:
”Initially we thought we would need £40,000 but that has now massively increased due to unforeseen surgery costs and post-surgery treatment. The total figure is now looking to be £100k, which includes £25k surgery and immediate aftercare – but Simon will need a year of Avastin to make him cancer free.
Surgery can extend Simon’s life, but the Avastin could actually save it! The tumour is growing tendrils, like tree roots, and the Avastin is designed to kill the cancerous blood muscles that grow from it. So after a year of Avastin, he could be cancer free.
In the past two weeks, the story has appeared on Made in Leeds, a fancy dress rounder’s match has taken place and almost £12k has been raised through donations and events – amazing. But, there’s still a long way to go, and any extra time Simon gets to spend with his wife and kids is precious.
